A pretty sign isn’t going to help your business if it doesn’t attract the right people. Put yourself in the mind of your customers in order to make relevant content.

In addition to making your sign attractive, there answer the following questions before you get to work on your content:

    • 1. Who is my intended audience?

    • 2. Where is my sign located?

    • 3. What is the physical size of my sign?

    • 4. What’s my call to action going to be?

    • 5. How often will I change the content?

    • 6. What kind of hardware/software am I using?

    • 7. Will the sign include interactivity?

    8. Should I use video, motion graphics, still photography or a combination?

Using Content Templates

Unless you’re hiring a graphic designer, you should use templates to create your digital signs.

Your digital signage software program will include templates, but sometimes you want to use more than what’s supplied. We’ve pulled together a list of resources for you to use for your content.

Most of these are PowerPoint presentations, but there are a few templates for specific software as well. If you don’t have PowerPoint, you can easily convert them to Google Slides and publish them on the web. If you combine this with an internet connected TV or monitor, you don’t need to have a separate computer or software to use your digital signage.

Many of these templates are not specifically for digital signs. Since presentations use similar displays, it only takes a few tweaks to make them work for you.

7 Tools to Create Awesome Content for Your Digital Signage

1. ViewNeo

ViewNeo digital sign software includes a template designer with over 70 pre-designed templates to choose from. These templates are great because you don’t have to convert them from another program and it’s simple to change information. There is a free version of ViewNeo with limited features.

2. Presentation Point

High-end PowerPoint slides created specifically for digital signs. A little pricier, but well worth it. Advanced features include video, moving graphics and real-time weather data. Currently only eight slides are available:

  • Pub
  • Menu (3 versions)
  • Airport
  • Travel
  • Bakery
  • Hotel

3. RiseVision

Rise has been in the software business since 1992, and they have a reputation for having a great free software program, Rise Vision. Their templates page contains a small mix of free and $10 templates you can use in their software. You can also purchase content such as Facebook Feeds, weather data and more.

4. TemplatesWise

A good mix of free PowerPoint templates in six categories. A variety of slides beyond generic business concepts that would work for bakeries, education, clothing and more. Each presentation contains multiple slides.

5. Canva

Canva is a free online graphic design tool. You can create almost any type of graphic and customize any of their templates. While the program is free, many of the templates cost, but they are very inexpensive. The only drawback is that you will have to download your completed graphics and insert them into another program.

6. PresentationDeck.com

Prices range from $2-74 dollars for templates that include multiple slides. Bundles available that contain over 100 slides and icons. Great for businesses, but none really apply to retail environments.

7. Powered Template

Free single-slide templates that work well for businesses and some retail. The only drawback is they are title slides and most will only work with a maximum of two lines of type. Available for PowerPoint and Google Slides. Paid versions available, as well as matching brochure and business card templates for many of the designs.
